US Teaching Assistantship Program in Austria

Since 1962, the US Teaching Austria program has provided opportunities for US college and university graduates to work at secondary schools throughout Austria as teaching assistants.

US teaching assistants not only enhance the instruction of English as native speakers; they are also important resources for first-hand information about the United States and the “American way of life.”

One the program’s website, you can find:

Only online applications will be accepted. Please note that the application deadline for the program year 2016-17 is January 15, 2016.

The Austrian Federal Ministry of Education and Women’s Affairs (BMBF) finances this program, which is administered by Fulbright Austria (Austrian-American Educational Commission). While the participants in this program contribute to the Fulbright goal of promoting mutual understanding, this is not a Fulbright grant program. For information on the Fulbright student program in Austria, please consult the Institute for International Education at http://us.fulbrightonline.org/ or the website of Fulbright Austria.

If you have any questions, please contact either the Austrian-American Educational Commission or the Program Officer, Dr. Jurgen Hormann. Their information is located here.

Fulbright Program Seeks to Get More Community Colleges Involved in Exchanges

fulbrightThe U.S. Department of State’s Fulbright Program increases mutual understanding between the people of the U.S. and of other countries through international educational exchanges.

The State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, which administers Fulbright, says it plans to step up efforts to promote opportunities to students, instructors, and administrators at two-year institutions. The Bureau plans to help students be well-prepared to enter an increasingly globalized work force and to help bridge the global-knowledge gap through webinars, presentations at community-college events, bringing foreign scholars to teach at these colleges, and more.

As internationalization and globalization continue to be top priorities for many institutions, they are constantly looking for ways to promote international learning. “About 40 percent of our students will go directly into the work force, where globalization is becoming increasingly important,” said Wayne C. Wheeler, director of international programs and services for the American Association of Community Colleges. “The Fulbright Program is one way colleges can bring the world to their campuses.”

For more information about Fulbright at SPC, please contact Ramona RW Kirsch, Fulbright SPC Campus Representative and Director of SPC International Programs: kirsch.ramona@spcollege.edu
