Salamanca is Incredible!

IMG_4687This is the beginning of week two in España for me. It’s been a little difficult adjusting to how different things are over here, but I absolutely love it. I’ve been sucking up the culture like a sponge and really enjoy sharing all of the amazing things I’ve learned with my family during my calls home.

This program is absolutely incredible. I’ve explored medieval cities, taken selfies on top of a 1st-century aqueduct, and eaten dinner in a cave. I feel like every day here brings me a new experience that most people wait their entire lives to have. My classes are challenging, but I appreciate a good challenge. This entire experience is way outside of my comfort zone, and I can literally feel my horizons expanding.

While I miss my family at home immensely, I also love my family in Spain. My host mom, Azucena, is incredibly sweet and patient. I’ve learned so much from her! It is a lot like playing charades 24/7, so we have a lot of fun and good laughs. I was surprised to learn that she doesn’t speak English, because she seems to always understand exactly what I’m trying to tell her, even though my Spanish is pretty bad.

I’m so grateful to be experiencing all of these amazing things! I’ll try to continue to represent the US and SPC while I continue to study abroad in this incredible country.
