Salamanca: Una Ciudad muy interesante. by Chelsea Smithback

Segovia 6Spain has continued to be amazing. Last week we visited Segovia. A beautiful small city about two hours away from Salamanca. The castle was stunningly beautiful, including a room with a ceiling painted out of gold. There were many street musicians performing entertaining music. On the top of the castle is a little well, where if you throw a coin in and make a wish, and the coin get’s stuck on a small ledge in the well, your wish will com true.

There is also a small garden, very tranquil, where a “Romeo and Juliet” type story had happened. A woman fell in love with a man of a lower class and was forbidden from seeing him. As she was very distraught, she threw herself off the garden walls, to a fall of 20 meters, killing herself.

España y Portugal by Chelsea Smithback

The first week in Spain has been an amazing experience. Spain is a culturally-rich city, reflecting Spanish traditions. The Plaza Mayor is a beautiful structure, with a vibrant ambiance. Being the place to meet, the Plaza Mayor is constantly filled with many people. It is common for people to sit on the floor with friends to hang out. The shopping streets carry many popular European brands, as well as many Spanish stores. The morning market is a sensation for your senses. Smelling strongly of fish and filled with vibrant colors of fruits and vegetables, it is located in the middle of the city, next to the Plaza Mayor.

Portugal was another fun experience. The city of Porto has a great river running through the city, where the Red Bull Air Race is located. The beach was very hot, however, the Atlantic ocean was a bit chillier than the Gulf of Mexico.

Overall, the first week has been a great start to Study Abroad: Spain!
