Costa Rican Inspiration – I miss it already! by Charlotte Brathwaite

If there was ever a trip that allowed you to take a step back from hustle and bustle of life IMG_2315-300x168and evaluate your goals this would be it. I always had this dream of starting a mobile discount vet clinic on an island but as I grew older, I let go of my dream and focused on achieving my short term goals.  My time in Costa Rica has shown me that there is still a need for that type of care and although it won’t make me the richest person on earth it will definitely make me the happiest.

So much has happened since day one! Out of our 3 days on the water we were able to catch 8 turtles, see 3 sloths and make friends with a ton of beach pups. With our free time we got a little adventurous and kayaked from the open ocean down a river and back. Then we hiked up and down a mountain to a beautiful waterfall. Costa Rica is a place you want to visit if you want to immerse yourself in nature.  I could spend years exploring Costa Rica and the countries that surround it. Thank you SPC and AEI for this opportunity.IMG_2280IMG_2292

Our first day on the water. Costa Rica is muy bonita! by Charlotte Brathwaite

We learned what was expected of us as assistants and what LAST purpose and goals were. After our orientation we gathered our supplies/lunch and headed out to the boats.

The plan was to drop our nets, remove the tangles and then head to the beach and wait until we caught a turtle. We caught 4 green turtles and was able to take biometrics and tissue samples.

All in all it was a back breaking but rewarding day of work! Costa Rica is muy bonita!
