Appreciating the Beauty of Costa Rica by Bianca Torres

10300041_10203313370210645_7190555018035065546_nThis morning we counted sea grass. Afterwards we went kayaking.

I would have never thought I would go kayaking in a beautiful ocean and into a river and back in Costa Rica.

It was so peaceful and relaxing.

We saw a sloth with her baby in a tree, two sea turtles come up for a breath of air in the ocean, and even red macaws fly by over the trees.

The scenery and animals is something you cannot appreciate unless you see it yourself in person. Pictures aren’t enough but they are good reminders of this great experience.

It has been awesome so far. We will be going on a waterfall tour tomorrow and I’m so excited for that.

In the picture is someone’s dog in the community we are staying at. She’s such a sweetheart and so pretty. ♡

Day 5: We continue working with Sea Turtles in Costa Rica by Bianca Torres

20140511_165220Today we are seeing a city about 30 minutes away from Playa Blanca (where we are staying) called Puerto Jimenez. It’s amazing how different things are here from the US. The currency difference is probably what has shocked me the most when it comes to culture shock. The bills sound like they are so much money. For example, 1,000 colones is about 2 dollars. I’m starting to just now understand the value of their money since we are shopping in this city. Since I’m Puerto Rican, the food here is not too different from what I usually eat. One big change though is that they serve rice in every meal. I’m the one of the group that knows Spanish so I’ve been the designated translator which has been a good way to better my Spanish. My favorite part of course has been working with the Sea Turtles. During 2 days of being out at the beach waiting to catch Sea Turtles, we caught 8 total so far. Seven of them were Green Sea Turtles and one was a Hawksbill Sea Turtle. The photo above is a picture of the Hawksbill. Loving this trip so far!!! 🙂
