It’s day four of our Ireland adventure and we’re finally in Derry! The weather has honestly been wonderful; cool, refreshing, and overall nice. Today, after being fully settled, we went and met with some students of the NorthWest Regional College (and they were great to meet with an awesome sense of humor).
Shortly after, we were taken on a tour of the college and all of its facilities by their faculty member, Danny. Seeing the inside of their college on top of talking with their students made me realize our collegiate education systems were quite different. For one, their education goes up to an Associate’s. They also had a larger set of facilities; multiple cafeterias, a decent gym, a dance studio and a theatre. While our colleges are great, it takes usually a bigger university/college to have that much. Also, most students really enjoy their education, but to get good use of a job it could give them, they ultimately would have to leave Ireland.
After our tour, we had a discussion on personality and how it forms and what it is in one of their classrooms. It was very engaging and after we discussed what we would be doing in the coming days. Finally, we were let free and decided to tour and see the city of Derry since we couldn’t yesterday!
