Reader, I studied abroad in London! (Kudos to you if you got that tongue-in-cheek reference!). The first day was traveling on the plane, and it was exciting and terrifying in equal measure. As soon as we hit the ground on England soil, we were whisked away on a site-seeing tour en route to our hotel where we will be quartered during our stay. I was drawn to the majestic buildings and architecture of the past; each building I saw and every area of London had a story.
My First impressions of the city of London is that it is regal, urban and “familiar”. The feeling of familiarity was not just because I was in an English-speaking country, but it somewhat reminded me of New York City. I felt like I was at home, yet I was on uncharted territory.
My group journeyed through various areas during the tour, but the one that were most notable to me were Westminster. I saw Elizabeth tower and the parliament, and it was both amazing and surreal. At the end of the tour we were able to check into the hotel and settle into our quarters, but my day did not end there. We had a welcome dinner on the first floor of our hotel where we were briefed on the next day’s schedule. Then later that evening, I went on a trip to Oxford via subway train, to take in the shops on the strip, as well as observing the city at night. Alas, this capped off my arrival in the great city of London, England!
It has always been a lifelong dream of mine to come to the city and now I finally had the opportunity to do so, and I am beyond happy and thankful to be a part of this experience!
