Spain – People here are focused on things other than working all day by Jeanine O’connell

Hola chicos! I cannot believe that our time in Spain is coming to an end already. These three weeks have flown by too fast. I love it here. I love how different it is than home. The buildings are so beautiful and there is so much history everywhere you look. It’s an amazing feeling to be standing among a city that has out lasted the life of our own country!

I could live here. Minus not having my dog. But honestly, I could live here. I love the lifestyle. The people here are focused on other things in life other than working all day like American mentality. I think that is what I am going to miss the most. The relax-ness here is something I’ve gotten used to. Back home people always seem to be rushing or worrying or pushing to get somewhere, do something, or make that extra dollar. But what good are all those extra dollars with no time to spend them? You cannot take them with you when you’re gone.

Here in Spain I have seen the most beautiful cities with history that I can feel in my chest and bones. Everyday is like the first day when I look at the Plaza Mayor or the Cathedral. When I walk down the streets I can almost picture what it looked like 500 years ago, what the people wore, horses pulling carts, I can hear them talking. Spain is such a beautiful country with people that have so much pride and love inside themselves for their country it’s inspiring.

There are some things I miss about home, like standing in front of my fridge for 15 minutes deciding what I want to eat, drinking milk, and sleeping in my own bed. But I would not trade this experience for anything. I do not know of a lot of people as lucky as I am to have been given an opportunity like this. To study Spanish, in Spain, with some amazing professors with some of the funniest people I’ve ever met. The friends I’ve made here, we’ve created a lifelong bond that will forever be an amazing memory and learning experience.

I am so lucky and happy to be here in Spain and very sad to be leaving her in a few days. I cannot wait to come back again and continue studying and see more of what this country has to offer and the beautiful things she has.
