So we went to the Tower of London today! I will admit, walking through a structure several times older than out country was a bit intimidating! I’m a huge fan of the ravens as well, I had never realized they were so big. I’m also pretty sure those birds live better than I do.
The Crown Jewels were on the tour as well, and I can safely say that I have never seen something expensive that is so rarely used! Our tour guide told us that they aren’t actually the Crown’s property, though, they really belong to the people of Great Britain as a whole.
When we walked through The Tower, it was surprisingly quiet, surrounded by the hustle and bustle of tourists as we were. It was almost as if you could feel the history of the place take physical presence and press down on your shoulders, the weight of a lengthy history America doesn’t really have. The Tower cast a sort of spell over the windy, chilly courtyard we stood in, a grim reminder of the horrors of the past. Locals say that the place is haunted, and I’m never sure about ghosts, but I do know that as I stood there, I felt something, deep and a little foreboding.
