Program details: The primary goal of the course is to introduce students to the rainforest associated systems of South America and the ecology through lectures, labs, and discovery-oriented investigative experiences of rainforest, wetlands, estuaries and coastal environments of Ecuador.

Students will participate in research work in collaboration with local scientists, community specialists and conservation groups on a series of projects to protect local Ecuadorian environments. This will potentially include habitat restoration, enhancement of wildlife habitat, and observations of wildlife. In addition, students will interact with local populations at lodging locations through provided cultural activities such as cooking classes, dance classes, and teaching at local elementary schools. There are also local excursions to sites of historic and cultural relevance.
