Foundation Scholarship Is Making Me Study Abroad In Greece!

foundation scholarship

The 2017-2018 year is my first year at SPC, and starting here was a completely new and exciting experience. I remember early in the fall semester I kept seeing the Foundation Scholarship advertised and I applied to as many as I could, mainly focusing on academic scholarships. While applying like a maniac, I saw the option for Study Abroad scholarships, which I had never seen before and didn’t think would be available with a community college. I was surprised but intrigued, and seeing the many exotic and interesting trips and locations made me want to apply right away for a scholarship. I didn’t think I would receive any scholarship to travel abroad but I had a “why not?” mentality, and I’m glad I did because I was notified a few weeks later that I was being considered to receive $2,000. Less than a week later, I was told I officially received it!

Out of all the scholarships that I foundation scholarshipapplied for, academic or not, I only received one, and it was $2,000 to help me study in Greece in the summer! The SPC Study Abroad department has made things really easy for me, and anyone to receive a scholarship, and they definitely made me determined to save up the rest and go to Greece. Over half of the total cost of the trip was paid thanks to the foundation scholarship, and though I needed a little bit more work to save the rest, I have already gotten it done, and with every day that goes by, I am closer to going Greece.

My trip is May 3-13, and I chose the Greece trip not only because I was going to receive a required Humanities credit but, I had always dreamed of going to Greece. Greece is a beautiful and exotic place and I had never thought I would have the opportunity to go as soon as I have, and I feel really lucky and grateful that I opened the door when this opportunity knocked. The itinerary for this trip is insane and reading it just sounds like an opportunity of a lifetime (and there were hardly any adjectives in it to sugar coat). Overall, I am so excited and the process of applying and waiting is definitely worth it, I am just incredibly happy that I will have an amazing once in lifetime experience while I am young.
