Vietnamese Fulbright Scholar to visit SPC!
St. Petersburg College is pleased to welcome the U.S.-ASEAN Fulbright Initiative Scholar, Dr. Quyet Nguyen, from Vinh University in Vietnam. Dr. Nguyen will be on the SPC campus in November as the featured speaker in the following International Education Week event:
A TASTE OF VIETNAM

Along with Dr. Nguyen’s engaging talk about Vietnamese culture and history, participants will hear from SPC International Students from Vietnam and learn about local Vietnamese community groups. Delicious Vietnamese food will be served and interactive cultural corners will be set up to learn about Vietnamese language, music, film and seasonal celebrations! This event is sponsored by SPC’s Center for International Programs and the SP/Gibbs Student Life office.
In October, Dr. Nguyen led an interactive session with SPC Model United Nations students and faculty about the South China Sea Dispute and the United Nations role in resolving this conflict.

Dr. Nguyen will also do an interactive session with an International Relations class when on SPC campus in November. Dr. Nguyen’s Fulbright award is based at the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg where he is conducting research this semester on the South China Sea Dispute and conflict resolution. At Vinh University, Dr. Nguyen is Division Head of the Department of Foreign Languages and Lecturer of English & International Relations. He teaches courses in Vietnam’s Contemporary Foreign Policy, and Cross-Cultural Communication.
The Fulbright US–ASEAN Visiting Scholar Initiative provides opportunities for nationals of the ten ASEAN countries (Brunei, Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam) to travel to the United States for scholarly and professional research for three to four months on priority issues to the U.S.-ASEAN relationship and ASEAN. The objective of the Fulbright U.S.-ASEAN Visiting Scholar Initiative is to deepen people-to-people engagement and strengthen our educational ties.
