When I had the idea of going on a study abroad I went to the SPC homepage and immediately found the Spain program. I brought the idea up to my friends and family and, of course, none of them liked the fact that I would be gone for 3 weeks. I told them it was over a year away and there was no need to worry. Before I knew it, I was being dropped off at the airport, and I would be gone for 3 weeks. It finally started to feel real to everyone and myself.
My roommate for the trip, April, and I took off from Tampa to go spend a day in London. With multiple layovers in Canada and my experience in London, I began to realize just how different other countries can be, even the ones where they speak your language.
When we landed in Spain, I quickly came to realize that I knew a lot less Spanish than I thought I did. I was jet lagged, I felt sick, and neither one of us had more than about 5 hours of sleep in last 72 hours. I did not expect to feel the way I did when I finally made it to Spain.
We met up with our group and immediately I started to feel better. Unfortunately they couldn’t really help with my jet lag, but the worries that started when we got off the plane soon disappeared. Even though I had only met these people briefly a couple of times before arriving to Spain, they instantly felt like friends and almost all my worries were gone.
Going to all these different places and doing all these different things is just breathtaking, but it is even better doing it with all these incredible people. It amazes me how different everyone is yet still so similar. We all live vastly different lives yet something in each of our lives brought us to Spain this summer and I’m very happy it did.
Profesora Levin and Albrecht are the best people to be taking students abroad. They are so fun, caring, and just genuinely good people. They make this trip the unbelievable experience that it is.
Traveling with them and the group has been an incredible experience and of course I would recommend it to anyone and everyone! The friendships and connections I’ve made here are by far the best thing I’m taking home with me.
