The SPC England Theater Study Abroad experience was my first Study Abroad trip as well as my first trip to England. The most memorable moment I had in London was Day 2 of the trip. Day 2 for me was all about facing your fears. On Day 2 we had a day of independence to tour the city. My group and I were discussing where we wanted to go first. We ended up letting fate decide and took a train to Tower Hill. After walking a little while we saw a giant bridge, Tower Bridge.
As we got closer to Tower Bridge, we saw advertisements saying that you can climb to the top and walk on the glass floor. A lot of us, including myself, were very scared to go all the way to the top. After promising us Starbucks, the group proceeded to go to the top of Tower Bridge. The view was fantastic! I’ve never seen a more gorgeous view of London. We were even able to take a quick group photo on the bridge.
After Tower Bridge, we decided to experience London Dungeon. London Dungeon is an interactive haunted house with two rides. It takes people on a tour of London’s scary past. Our group was targeted serval times by the London Dungeon actors. I don’t know if it was a mere coincidence or they heard our American accents and decided to only scare the Americans. Either way it was horrifyingly brilliant. As part of the LD show, the actors take the audience into different rooms and recreate different time periods in London. In one room, they told the story of Jack the Ripper.
My friend and I sat by a small table to listen to the story. Suddenly, the lights began to flicker. Then everything went completely dark. There was no sound. All of a sudden strobe lights came on and Jack the Ripper was standing right in front of me and my friend. I screamed and nearly fell out of my chair. Then Jack the Ripper vanished and all of the lights came back on. I looked around and my entire group was standing behind us laughing. My friend and I ended up laughing as well. Nobody else in that entire audience was targeted except us. It was slightly unfair but very fun to be a part of. Unfortunately, we couldn’t take any photos of the show but I wish that there was a video of my group going through it. It was a sight to see! I had such an amazing time in London and I would definitely go back.
