Getting to Know SPC: New International Student Orientation at Clearwater

Every semester, International Programs buzzes with activity as new international students start their journey at SPC. On Thursday, August 13, Clearwater campus had its international student orientation for the Fall term, providing 12 students from 10 countries information that will be vital to their success at SPC.

Angela Cole, the International Student Representative of the campus, discussed the FACTS (Full time, Authorized work, Carry documents, Transition, Stay in touch) each student must know in order to ensure their academic success and to keep their immigration status. The students also learned how to register for classes, how to purchase health insurance, and how to join on-campus clubs and organizations. Sane Haidara, a current international student at SPC, participated in the orientation as a guest speaker emphasizing the important of insurance for international students.

Motivated by games and prizes, the students tested their knowledge about keeping in good status as an international student. After lunch, International Programs staff took the students on a campus tour, familiarizing them with what classes and facilities each building offers.  At the end of the day-long orientation, our new international students felt comfortable and confident about the upcoming semester. We wish them the best of luck!
