EMS program pass rates soar

Kudos to the EMS Program!

More outstanding news in EMS! In addition to a recent grant award from the Florida Department of Health, they are celebrating student success. EMT graduates from Dec. 12, 2015 through June 11, 2016 passed their licensing exam at a rate of 94%, exceeding the state average of a 74% pass rate, and an amazing jump from the previous SPC pass rate.

The EMS faculty and staff have spent huge amounts of time and effort to reach this amazing level of success in a very short time frame. With curriculum changes, outstanding out-of-class support, and the incorporation of a test prep class, EMS has made great strides to improve first attempt pass rates.

SPC provides education in the two levels of Emergency Medical Services certified by the State of Florida: Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic. The EMT is the first level and allows practice at the basic life support level. It also provides the foundation to become a Paramedic. Paramedics provide more extensive pre-hospital care than do EMTs and are trained in advanced life support measures.

SPC also offers an A.S. degree program in Emergency Medical Services. Our EMT and Paramedic programs are the first two occupational completion points for our EMS-AS. This A.S. degree transfers to our bachelor’s degrees in Public Safety Administration or Health Services Administration.
