SPC College of Nursing welcomes visiting Colombian student

Universidad El Bosque student Cindy Ruiz visits SPC College of Nursing

On Oct. 10, the College of Nursing welcomed Cindy Ruiz, a BSN student from the Universidad El Bosque in Bogota, Colombia. During the 2-week exchange experience, Cindy attended classes, participated in simulation and visited healthcare facilities. One of the days, she was able to shadow a staff nurse at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in the cardiovascular intensive care unit.

These opportunities helped to give her insight into our healthcare system and nursing education in the United States. During this time, she shared with several of the nursing classes how nursing education and healthcare delivery are conducted in her country of Colombia.

This exchange experience with the Universidad El Bosque’s Nursing program marks the culmination of a year-long process of developing a cooperative relationship between our nursing programs. The intent of this experience for the nursing students is to increase their exposure to other cultures and healthcare modalities.

Two of our BSN nursing students will be traveling to Colombia to obtain their community practicum experience at the end of this month. These student exchange experiences will help our students to grow as nurse leaders in our global community.

Our colleges of nursing are excited about the learning experiences that this collegial relationship between our teaching institutions will provide for our students and faculty.
