EMS classrooms receive major upgrades

Sometimes, it’s just time for a change. The Emergency Medical Services department was in desperate need of updating to their classrooms, technology, and student learning environments. Sometimes funding can be an issue, or time, but not for EMS! Not only have they recently been awarded a nearly $50k grant from the Florida Department of Health to purchase a manikin simulator, and also seen pass rates soar for EMT students, but now the classrooms have been revamped with the latest and greatest technology and furniture!

So it’s out with the old classroom tables…

Wait, there’s more!

We now have new flat screen TVs in the process of being installed in HEC classroom 119. When the installation is complete, these screens should interface with cameras mounted in the simbulance (ambulance simulator), the computer displays in the room for lectures, and in addition, if EMS is able to secure a monitoring recording system from KbPort or CAE Healthcare, this will display readouts of simulations from the manikins and student interactions. This will be very useful for debriefing and/or classroom demonstrations. What a great way for students to experience real-world scenarios while using the newest technology!

The EMS students are excited for all the changes and look forward to working and learning in the modernized classrooms. Kudos to the Health Education Center Provost, Dr. Eric Carver, for leading the charge, to Dr. Rebecca Ludwig, Dean for the College of Health Sciences, and to the rest of the EMS team who support the revisions and changes aimed at student success!
