Interprofessional Collaboration Benefits SPC Health Students

Interprofessional Collaboration Health Students

College of Health Science students at St. Petersburg College stepped into the shoes of other healthcare professionals at this month’s Interprofessional Collaboration Event.

Fifty students and 12 faculty members participated in the event on March 27.

Students benefited from learning about the roles of other healthcare professionals and want more opportunities to participate in future interprofessional collaboration events.  When asked if they learned something new during the session, all raised their hands.

Among the group were 29 dental hygiene students, 10 respiratory therapy students, five radiology students, four emergency medical services students and two health information technology students.

The students were divided into teams composed of a mix of various disciplines. They worked together to analyze care provided during a hypothetical medical emergency scenario presented in three video clips produced by the faculty. Under the guidance of a faculty moderator, each team identified and discussed the medical errors and recommended ways to correct or prevent future medical errors.
