Honors Interdisciplinary 5K Race at SP/G Campus Offers 3 Ways to Win

Honors Interdisciplinary 5K Race

Are you runner champion material and want to strut your stuff while helping the community at the same time? Or is your pace more of the walker/jogger variety, but you still want chances to win?

The Honors Interdisciplinary 5K Race is open to the public and allows participants to win with a Best Picture and Most Epic Selfie with pictures taken during the race.

For the first time ever, the SPC Honors Program, Phi Theta Kappa and Golden Key International Society is partnering with the Hope, Health and Sunshine Foundation to bring the race to the St. Petersburg/Gibbs Campus on Saturday, March 25. Racers should be at the campus at the Permaculture Garden on the north side of the Natural Science (SC) building by 8 a.m. for registration and be ready to run through campus and the Pinellas Trail at 10 a.m.

All Race Proceeds Donated to Help Local Cancer Patients

Hope, Health and Sunshine Foundation

All proceeds from the race will be donated to the Hope, Health, and Sunshine Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping local cancer patients. This foundation has donated toys to John Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, gift cards to local cancer patients and iPads to the Bardmoor Chemotherapy rooms.

Want to help? Register yourself, friends, and family to participate in this race! Registration is free for SPC students and only $20 for non-students. Whether you are a sprinting champion, enjoy jogging or just want to walk to enjoy some outdoor exercise in the sun, don’t miss the chance to bring your friends and family for a day of fun, sunshine and giving. Publix has donated refreshments such as cold drinks, bananas, granola bars and bagels for participating racers. After the race, Professor Bonnie Kessler’s band, Rosewood Creek, will give a special performance for the community and participants to enjoy.

Win at the Honors Interdisciplinary 5K Race Three Ways

Want to win? The Honors Interdisciplinary 5K Race offers three different ways to win. Racers should get their cell phones ready to take the best picture or the “Best Epic Selfie” in addition to gunning for best race times. Post your pictures and epic selfies during the race to Facebook with the following hash tags to win:

  • #SPCphojography17 for phenomenal race pictures
  • #SPCepicselfie17 for contenders for the “Best Epic Selfie Award”

First, second, and third place winners in all three categories will win medals and prizes donated by local businesses such as St. Pete Running Company. All racers will also be entered into a raffle with the potential to win prizes such as Orange Theory Fitness memberships, Horse & Jockey gift certificates, Paddle Boarding for Two certificates from Paddle Board Rentals, and Caddy’s on the Beach gift certificates. Volunteer racers and photographers are still needed! Register your friends and family today!
