SPC graduate finds career success in engineering technology

Chad Cartwright, St. Petersburg College graduate of the Collaborative Center for Emerging Technologies (CCET), experiences success through hands-on training at SPC. Cartwright gained skills beyond the textbook by learning from his professor’s knowledge of the field. Cartwright found the engineering technology program’s flexibility helped accommodate his challenging work and personal schedule. Watch his success story.

SPC’s CCET program is a national model

The CCET program, at the Clearwater campus, is an open manufacturing work environment to train tomorrow’s engineering technology and manufacturing employees. St. Petersburg College’s Associate of Science Degree in Engineering Technology – also the first in Florida – has been adopted by 11 other colleges in the state and serves as a national model for other states. The program, developed by the Florida Advanced Technological Education (FLATE) National Science Foundation Center and SPC, was awarded the Florida College System Chancellor’s Best Practice Award for Workforce Education in 2010.

Students are immersed in a hands-on environment that gives them current industry knowledge as engineering technicians. They’re prepared to support processes by solving technical problems in research and development, sales, construction, assembly, quality assurance and prototyping. Some of the program certifications include:

Careers in engineering technology

After the program, students are equipped to advance in the field as:

  • Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technicians
  • Electro-Mechanical Technicians
  • Industrial Engineering Technicians
  • Industrial Designers
  • Mechanical Engineering Technicians
