Mentoring for women at Women2STEM

STEM mentoring

The St. Petersburg College Clearwater Campus will host a four-week seminar to promote women in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). This is an exciting opportunity for women to learn more about careers in STEM and receive mentoring from noted professionals in the field.

The college will provide seminars on Saturdays in July from 10 a.m.  – 2 p.m. to promote women in STEM.  Attendees will learn about careers in these in-demand fields and programs that can help them achieve their career goals. To help women with bridging the gap, seminars on student life and money management will be provided to ensure a smooth transition into their new field. There has never been a better time to step up into a new career.

According to the White House Office of Technology Policy, women in STEM careers earn 33 percent more than women in non-STEM jobs. Despite this, women are underrepresented in these fields. Women represent 47 percent of the workforce, but their presence in STEM is as little as 13 percent.

In engineering, women have an opportunity to make the world a better place and a difference in people’s lives every day. Whether it is designing a safer car or making sure a new office building is ready to stand the test of time, their work matters.

Mark your calendar. The seminar starts on July 9 and continues on July 16, 23 and 30 from 10 a.m. –  2 p.m. Read more about the Women2STEM program in the the college news blog.
