Student Loan Repayment is Resuming
Student loan repayment is resuming after a three-year pause due to the pandemic. Interest started accruing on Sept. 1 and repayment began in October.
Student loan repayment can be confusing and complex. Here are some helpful tips as you prepare for repayment or prepare to begin repayment for the first time:
TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL STUDENT LOAN REPAYMENT
- Review your budget to work your monthly student loan payments back in.
- Go to studentaid.gov to find your servicer, review your balance, due date, and monthly payment amount, and choose your repayment plan.
- Go to your loan servicer website and create or update your login, update your demographic and contact information, and opt-in to start or restart auto-debit.
- Keep good records and documentation of your research and phone calls, chats, or live chats. Take screenshots of your online records.
- Be patient with student loan servicers. Millions of borrowers are starting repayment at the same time.
