Workshops Answer College Questions

Workshops Answer College Questions

Summer is coming to a close and August is the time when students start thinking about the new school year ahead of you and the supplies you’ll need, along with all the responsibilities and new opportunities available to you as a student. But for high school seniors, this is also a time of discovery, decision making and college questions. Colleges often offer sessions that answer either specific questions (financial aid, career exploration) or take a more general approach (College 101).

Perhaps you are thinking about:

Choosing a college

Deciding to go to college and then deciding where you want to go is a big choice that can help you grow and will challenge you in many positive ways. Whether you decide to stay close to home or venture out of state, it’s best to do your research. Factors such as tuition, quality of programs, campus culture, and student resources are very important when selecting a higher education institution.

What to major in

One of the greatest challenges a young adult faces is determining what their skills are and how those skills can be turned into a fulfilling career choice. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, students in college will change their major on average up to three times. There are specialized assessments and career advising professionals who are highly trained to help you discover your talents and skills. Visiting your college’s career center is highly recommended to help guide you on the best path for your degree choice.

How to pay for college

Everyone knows college tuition can be expensive; however, students who are well-armed with knowledge about opportunities for them will be able to beat the cost of rising tuition. There are a lot of organizations providing money to students, sometimes it’s as simple as applying and writing an essay about your story to earn enough to pay for books one semester. Stop by your local financial aid office to speak with a representative that can provide you all the information you need for your financial aid tool kit.

Find a workshop to answer college questions

Many colleges offer workshops that answer college questions such as general information, choosing a college, career and degree exploration and paying for college – often in multiple sessions so you can find a convenient time. Use these resources to inform yourself, make some tough calls, take care of some paperwork and then kick back and concentrate on enjoying (and dominating) your senior year of high school. Good luck!
