New Hire: Music Industry Recording Arts

Professor Dan Hetzel

St. Petersburg College (SPC) welcomes Dan Hetzel as full-time Humanities and Fine Arts Professor. We look forward to Professor Hetzel sharing his talents, insights, and guiding students in the Music Industry Recording Arts program.

Dan Hetzel is a Grammy-award winning and twice-nominated mix engineer, recording engineer, producer, instructor, and musician, with dozens of platinum and gold record credits. Engineering credits include Jennifer Lopez, Lionel Richie, Billy Joel, Mariah Carey, Marc Anthony, Billy Porter, RuPaul, Celine Dion, Jessica Simpson, Enrique Iglesias, Diana Ross, Brie Larson, Steven Seagal, Dee Snider, LL Cool J, and many others. Dan’s mixing and engineering work can be found in many award-winning albums and films, including multiple-Oscar winning film ChicagoElla Enchanted, and Shall we Dance.

Professor Dan Hetzel

Hetzel is Avid Pro Tools Expert certified. He has taught classes within SPC’s Music Industry Recording Arts and Digital Media programs. He has worked in recording studios in New York City, Long Island, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, London, Moscow, and Sweden. In addition to his extensive work in audio, Hetzel is an accomplished videographer, and brings pedagogical experience having taught at several colleges and high schools.

Professor Hetzel looks forward to imparting inspirational experience and practical skills to our SPC students and campus community.

About Music at SPC

Music AA Transfer 

SPC’s Music and Music Education AA Transfer degrees (60 credits) are two-year programs that prepare students for transfer to University music programs in Performance, Music Education (Band, Chorus, Orchestra, General Music), and Music Therapy. Students earn Music State Common Perquisite credits in music lessons, music ensembles, music/aural theory, and student recital. Students also earn all 36 general education liberal arts credits.

Music Industry Recording Arts (MIRA) AS Degree 

SPC’s Music Industry Recording Arts (MIRA) AS degree (64 credits) is a two-year workforce program with technology focus. It prepares students to work as producers, audio engineers, composers/songwriters in the music industry. The core curriculum includes courses in digital audio workstations, live sound engineering, studio recording techniques, critical listening, legal issues in music, practical music business, and more.

Audio Engineering and Production (AUDIOPE) Certificate

SPC’s Audio Engineering and Production (AUDIOPE) Certificate (24 credits) is a financial aid eligible certificate that includes instruction in digital audio workstations, studio recording techniques, acoustics, live sound and professional audio production.  The stand-alone certificate prepares workforce internships and employment. The 24 credits also count towards the MIRA-AS degree.
