SPC Theater Presents Peter and the Starcatcher

Peter and the Starcatcher

St. Petersburg College’s Theater Department presents Peter and the Starcatcher October 20-24 in the Arts Auditorium on the Clearwater Campus.

The Tony-winning play, based on the best-selling novels, upends the century-old story of how a miserable orphan boy becomes the legendary Peter Pan.

A wildly theatrical adaptation of Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson’s best-selling novels, the play was conceived for the stage by directors Roger Rees and Alex Timbers and written by Rick Elice, with music by Wayne Barker. From marauding pirates and jungle tyrants to unwilling comrades and unlikely heroes, Peter and the Starcatcher playfully explores the depths of greed and despair… and the bonds of friendship, duty and love.

A young orphan and his mates are shipped off from Victorian England to a distant island ruled by the evil King Zarboff. They know nothing of the mysterious trunk in the captain’s cabin, which contains a precious, otherworldly cargo. At sea, the boys are discovered by a precocious young girl named Molly, a Starcatcher-in-training who realizes that the trunk’s precious cargo is starstuff, a celestial substance so powerful that it must never fall into the wrong hands. When the ship is taken over by pirates – led by the fearsome Black Stache, a villain determined to claim the trunk and its treasure for his own, the journey quickly becomes a thrilling adventure.

Featuring seventeen actors portraying more than 100 unforgettable characters, Peter and the Starcatcher uses ingenious stagecraft and the limitless possibilities of imagination to bring the story to life. SPC’s production was made possible by a cast of 19 performers and a creative team of 21 students who built sets, sewed costumes, focused lights, and managed the entire show. Join us for this singular, entertaining event that is only possible through the magic of live theater.

Shows are at 7 p.m. October 20-24, with 2 p.m. matinees on Oct. 23 and 24. There is a $10 suggested donation at the door, but the show is free for SPC students, faculty and staff with ID.
