{"id":415,"date":"2015-08-28T14:32:33","date_gmt":"2015-08-28T18:32:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/veterans\/?p=415"},"modified":"2024-02-13T08:24:00","modified_gmt":"2024-02-13T13:24:00","slug":"gi-bill-in-state-tuition-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/veterans\/gi-bill-in-state-tuition-update\/","title":{"rendered":"GI Bill In-State Tuition Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"page-title\">Section 702 of the Veterans Choice Act<\/h2>\n<h3>GI Bill Resident Rate Requirements<\/h3>\n<p>Section 702 of the Veterans Access, Choice and Accountability Act of 2014 (\u201cChoice Act\u201d), requires VA to disapprove programs of education for payment of benefits under the Post-9\/11 GI Bill and Montgomery GI Bill-Active Duty at public Institutions of Higher Learning (IHLs)\u00a0if the school charges qualifying Veterans and dependents tuition and fees in excess of the rate for resident students for terms beginning after July 1, 2015.<\/p>\n<p>To remain approved for VA\u2019s GI Bill programs, schools must charge in-state tuition and fee amounts to \u201ccovered individuals.\u201d A<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><em>covered individual<\/em><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>is defined in the Choice Act as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A Veteran who lives in the state where the\u00a0IHL is located (regardless of his\/her formal state of residence) and enrolls in the school within three years of discharge from a period of active duty service of 90 days or more.<\/li>\n<li>An individual using transferred benefits who lives in the state in\u00a0where the\u00a0IHL is located (regardless of his\/her formal state of residence) and enrolls in the school within\u00a0three years of the transferor\u2019s discharge from a period of active duty service of 90 days or more.<\/li>\n<li>An individual using benefits under the Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship who lives in the state in\u00a0where the\u00a0IHL is located (regardless of his\/her formal state of residence) and enrolls in the school within three years of the Servicemember\u2019s death in the line of duty following a period of active duty service of 90 days or more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A\u00a0person described above will retain<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><em>covered individual<\/em><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>status as long as he\/she remains continuously enrolled (other than during regularly scheduled breaks between terms) at the public IHL.<\/p>\n<p>For more info, click <a href=\"http:\/\/www.benefits.va.gov\/gibill\/702.asp\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There you can also track the latest compliance status by state, territory, and school on\u00a0using their\u00a0map.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Section 702 of the Veterans Choice Act GI Bill Resident Rate Requirements Section 702 of the Veterans Access, Choice and Accountability Act of 2014 (\u201cChoice Act\u201d), requires VA to disapprove programs of education for payment of benefits under the Post-9\/11 GI Bill and Montgomery GI Bill-Active Duty at public Institutions of Higher Learning (IHLs)\u00a0if the &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/veterans\/gi-bill-in-state-tuition-update\/\" class=\"more-link\">Continue reading <span class=\"screen-reader-text\">GI Bill In-State Tuition Update<\/span> <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":14,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"coauthors":[],"class_list":["post-415","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-general-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
