{"id":5031,"date":"2025-05-14T15:25:24","date_gmt":"2025-05-14T19:25:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/technology-educational-information\/?p=5031"},"modified":"2025-05-14T15:29:32","modified_gmt":"2025-05-14T19:29:32","slug":"nasa-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/technology-educational-information\/nasa-event\/","title":{"rendered":"NASA and SPC Collaborate to Explore Workforce Innovation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On Friday, May 2, 2025, St. Petersburg College (SPC) hosted a highly successful Innovation and Workforce Event at its Tarpon Springs Campus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event brought together technology transfer experts from NASA\u2019s Kennedy Space Center, SPC students and faculty, and leaders from local and national industries to explore new ways of connecting advanced technologies to workforce development and entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The program began with a welcome from Dr. Rodrigo Davis, Provost of SPC Tarpon Springs, who introduced the recently opened <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spcollege.edu\/friends-partners\/about\/locations\/community-enrichment-facilities\/chris-sprowls-workforce-innovation-hub\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Chris Sprowls Workforce Innovation Hub<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis event exemplifies what\u2019s possible when education, government, and industry work together to inspire the next generation of innovators,\u201d said Dr. Davis. \u201cWe are especially thankful to our industry partners for their invaluable support and participation, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.honeywell.com\/us\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Honeywell Aerospace<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jabil.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jabil<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shadow-caster.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Shadow-Caster Lighting<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.regions.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Regions Bank<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microlumen.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MicroLumens<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/fl-ate.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Florida Advanced Technological Education Center<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adventhealth.com\/hospital\/adventhealth-north-pinellas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AdventHealth North Pinellas<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tavrida.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tavrida Electric North America<\/a>. Their engagement is vital to preparing our students for meaningful careers and leadership roles in a fast-changing economy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jeffrey Kohler and Logan Cicala, representing NASA\u2019s Technology Transfer Program, gave attendees an in-depth look at how NASA\u2019s patented innovations are made available for public use, commercial development, and economic growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNASA\u2019s Technology Transfer Program is about ensuring that the incredible innovations developed for space exploration find a second life right here on Earth,\u201d said Jeffrey Kohler, Technology Transfer Specialist at NASA. \u201cPartnering with institutions like St. Petersburg College allows us to empower the next generation of engineers, entrepreneurs, and problem-solvers by putting real technologies in their hands.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event featured\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/collaborativelabs.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Collaborative Labs<\/a>\u00a0session led by Andrea Henning, Executive Director of SPC Collaborative Labs. This interactive session gathered community and business leaders alongside SPC students to identify workforce innovation\/entrepreneurial opportunities that could be propelled through business community partnerships and innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a networking lunch, the spotlight turned to SPC students in a dynamic Innovation Pitch Competition. Student teams from the College of Business, the College of Computer &amp; Information Technology, and the Engineering Program presented business ideas utilizing real NASA technologies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Judged by a panel of industry community leaders, the competition highlighted student creativity, cross-disciplinary teamwork, and the real-world application of high-tech resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event concluded with the announcement of the winning student teams, a guided tour of the Chris Sprowls Workforce Innovation Hub, and final networking opportunities
