This luncheon brought to light that there is a greater population of men than women in the technology field. With a goal to break this trend, lecturers presented excellent tools that could be implemented throughout St. Petersburg College (SPC) and CCIT.<\/p>\n<p>Hoopes viewed her attendance at the conference as an excellent opportunity to expand her knowledge of the industry. &#8220;Real world experience brings greater value to the course and lends credibility to the professor,&#8221; she said. This, she feels, leads to a greater rapport with students in the classroom.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u00a0the Microsoft Ignite\u00a0Conference included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Microsoft Hyper V<\/li>\n<li>Cloud Computing<\/li>\n<li>Business Skype<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Microsoft Hyper V is giving VMware a run for their money,&#8221; Hoopes said, because it is efficient and cost effective. For the purposes of SPC, Business Skype is replacing the Microsoft Lync system; CCIT faculty can communicate with students and others outside our organization.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_484\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-484\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/information-technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2015\/06\/F-vs-M-AS-graduates.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-484 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/information-technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2015\/06\/F-vs-M-AS-graduates-300x273.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"273\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/technology-educational-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2015\/06\/F-vs-M-AS-graduates-300x273.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/technology-educational-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2015\/06\/F-vs-M-AS-graduates.jpg 355w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-484\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Female vs Male Graduates Spring 2015<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Note what a recent report\u00a0from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cyberfed.org\/\"><u>Cyberfed.org<\/u><\/a>,\u00a0 had to say about the level of interest women had in comparison to men when it came to IT programs:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite the fact that 57% of bachelor\u2019s degrees are earned by women, only 12% of them are in computer sciences. In more recent times, the number of enrollees in IT related degrees has declined when compared to 37% of women who obtained bachelor\u2019s degrees in the 1980\u2019s, whereas in 2012 they only amounted to 18%.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_479\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-479\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/information-technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2015\/06\/F-vs-M-Certificate-graduates.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-479 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/information-technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2015\/06\/F-vs-M-Certificate-graduates-300x273.jpg\" alt=\"F vs M Certificate graduates\" width=\"300\" height=\"273\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/technology-educational-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2015\/06\/F-vs-M-Certificate-graduates-300x273.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/technology-educational-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2015\/06\/F-vs-M-Certificate-graduates.jpg 355w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-479\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Female VS Male Graduates Spring 2015<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The report continues, \u201cWith the rising number of attacks on companies like Primera Blue Cross, Anthem, Sony Pictures and many more, the need for cybersecurity professionals in growing at a rapid rate. The timing has never been better for women to get involved in the cybersecurity sector especially since the Pentagon alone plans to hire at least 3000 new cybersecurity employees by 2016.
