The College of Computer and Information Technology at St. Petersburg College has collaborated with technology professionals and key faculty members to create a mentorship program that will bring these benefits to CCIT students.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why mentorship?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Did you know that college graduates are almost two times more likely to be engaged at work if they had a mentor <\/a>who encouraged them to pursue their goals and dreams.”  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And that large national studies link effective mentorship to important outcomes<\/a> such as degree completion, increased self-efficacy, and satisfaction with the educational experience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mentoring.org<\/a> notes four key ways mentors help students in their careers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Goal Setting: <\/strong>Mentors assist college students in determining their career aspirations, and work with students to achieve them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Networking:<\/strong> Because mentors are often well known and respected in their field and community, they can connect students with other professionals, internships and jobs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Broadening the Scope of Knowledge:<\/strong> Along with introducing students to professionals and opportunities in their chosen field, mentors acquaint students with new resources and organizations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Job Seeking and Interview Skills, and Job Retention:<\/strong> Mentors are able to demystify the often-overwhelming job seeking and interview processes, and offer first-hand advice on how future graduates can stand out to potential employers. In addition, mentors advise students on maintaining career longevity.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
