{"id":3614,"date":"2017-08-02T11:03:25","date_gmt":"2017-08-02T15:03:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/technology-educational-information\/?p=3614"},"modified":"2024-01-30T16:06:50","modified_gmt":"2024-01-30T21:06:50","slug":"cisco-ashley-rush-cybersecurity-student","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/technology-educational-information\/cisco-ashley-rush-cybersecurity-student\/","title":{"rendered":"Cisco Taps SPC Cybersecurity Student as E-Learning Beta Tester"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Technology company Cisco Systems selected St. Petersburg College Cybersecurity student Ashley Rush as a beta tester for their new Cisco Certified Network Associate\u00a0Cyber Ops e-learning program.<\/p>\n<p>Learning@Cisco, the education group within Cisco Systems Inc., recently developed a new entry-level Cybersecurity training program focused on the role of a security analyst.<\/p>\n<p>A security analyst is a front-line individual in a security operations center or SOC who receives alerts and logging information from key devices throughout an organization&#8217;s network.\u00a0 It is up to the security analyst utilizing the corporate policy, procedures, and SOC playbook to determine if a security event needs to be investigated or escalated to the next tier for analysis.\u00a0 This all happens while they are collecting the fundamental information about the event, such as IP hosts, MAC address, ports, protocols, time stamps, and more.<\/p>\n<h5>SPC Cybersecurity student participates in Cisco Cyber Ops e-learning program<\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/technology-educational-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2017\/07\/P16-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3673 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/technology-educational-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2017\/07\/P16-2-250x300.jpg\" alt=\"SPC Student Ashley Rush\" width=\"250\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/technology-educational-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2017\/07\/P16-2-250x300.jpg 250w, https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/technology-educational-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2017\/07\/P16-2.jpg 453w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cisco&#8217;s \u00a0e-learning environment includes content, graphics, videos, assessments, and hands-on labs.\u00a0 The two courses Learning@Cisco created for the training were Security Fundamentals (SECFND) and Security Operations (SECOPS).\u00a0 Each of these courses examines the fundamental skills of what a security operations entry-level team member needs to know.<\/p>\n<p>Per the requirements of the beta testers program, Rush was required to read all of the student content, watch the videos, complete both the assessments and complete the labs. Additionally, she\u00a0also was tasked with creating a report\u00a0that included course timing information and error corrections.\u00a0 In return for her report on the issues she found and timing information for the sections, she was provided with a testing coupon for both SECFND and the SECOPS courses.<\/p>\n<p>The information provided by Rush was instrumental in helping the Cisco Cybersecurity Scholarship program.\u00a0 Additionally, Rush has passed the first of the two exams and is preparing for the final exam.
