{"id":289,"date":"2015-04-29T12:57:55","date_gmt":"2015-04-29T16:57:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/information-technology\/?p=289"},"modified":"2024-01-30T16:04:16","modified_gmt":"2024-01-30T21:04:16","slug":"technology-career-event-draws-250","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/technology-educational-information\/technology-career-event-draws-250\/","title":{"rendered":"Technology career event draws 250+"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A recent Technology Career event held by the <a title=\"SPC College of Computer and Information Technology\" href=\"http:\/\/www.spcollege.edu\/ccit\">College of Computer &amp; Information Technology<\/a> (CCIT) at St. Petersburg College drew more than 250 people interested in exploring careers in Technology.<\/p>\n<p>Adam Doll, a senior recruiter at Veredus Corporation, a national Information Technology recruiting and staffing firm was the keynote speaker.\u00a0 Doll presented an overview of the IT job market both nationally and in the Tampa Bay area, highlighting increasing shortages of qualified, educated staff. He then provided a three-year outlook of the IT jobs market to give underclassmen and college seekers an idea of what they may expect for a career in the future.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/information-technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2015\/04\/CCIT-exploration1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-277\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/information-technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2015\/04\/CCIT-exploration1.jpg\" alt=\"technology career event\" width=\"1600\" height=\"900\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/technology-educational-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2015\/04\/CCIT-exploration1.jpg 1600w, https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/technology-educational-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2015\/04\/CCIT-exploration1-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/technology-educational-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2015\/04\/CCIT-exploration1-1024x576.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A panel of senior Information Technology executives then answered questions and provided an local perspective of the Information Technology career landscape:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dan Doyle, CEO Bayside Solutions<\/li>\n<li>Bruce Philipoom, VP of Infrastructure Raymond James<\/li>\n<li>Andy Swenson, CIO UPC Insurance<\/li>\n<li>Tony Francisco, CEO Var Dynamics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Topics discussed included available jobs, the qualifications employers are looking for in an Information Technology candidate, trends in Information Technology, salary expectations, Information Technology program options at SPC, and in general everything one needs to know to be prepared for a career in Information Technology.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Sharon Setterlind, Dean of the College of Computer &amp; Information Technology, gave a brief overview of the college\u2019s degree and certificate offerings that lead to a successful career.<\/p>\n<p>Afterwards, local employers met one-on-one with attendees for question and answer sessions. The activity and enthusiasm in that room were exciting and it was obvious that both attendees and employers were benefiting from the experience.
