The program allowed students to identify problems affecting their communities, conduct research to demonstrate it, develop solutions, and effectively communicate their solutions.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Bay Point and Cisco Innovate Together\" width=\"604\" height=\"340\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5PhOVwLDrTs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2>Innovate Together: Solving real-world problems through hands-on projects<\/h2>\n<p>More than 100 seventh graders from Bay Point Middle School&#8217;s Center for Advancement of the Sciences and Technology participated in this two-day event.<\/p>\n<p>Students were broke up into 16 teams with a mentor from Cisco assisting each one. The teams were tasked with creating projects that addressed social conscious and conservation issues. Some of the problems addressed were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Proper nutrition for children<\/li>\n<li>Feeding the homeless<\/li>\n<li>Automation that is re-skilling the workforce<\/li>\n<li>Affordable transportation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/technology-educational-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2017\/01\/IMG_8772.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3151 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/technology-educational-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2017\/01\/IMG_8772-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Innovate Together allows Baypoint Middle School students to present their project idea\" width=\"604\" height=\"403\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/technology-educational-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2017\/01\/IMG_8772-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/technology-educational-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2017\/01\/IMG_8772-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/technology-educational-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2017\/01\/IMG_8772-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 604px) 100vw, 604px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Innovate Together event ended with an award ceremony where the top four groups pitched their problem and solution to their peers, faculty, staff, district administration, and a judging panel. The panel included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Laura Malave, SPC Academic Chair Midtown\/Downtown Campuses<\/li>\n<li>Adrian Tillman, SPC Technology Professor<\/li>\n<li>Other community members<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The winning team developed a program around proper nutrition, that integrated a wearable component to scan and track food intake and nutrition information. Most of these jobs require a bachelor\u2019s degree or higher and have an average salary significantly above the U.S. average.
