Each award will be in the amount of $10,000 and is open to any and all student veterans pursuing computer science degrees or similar fields, as noted below.\u00a0Scholarship recipients will also be invited to attend Google&#8217;s 2014 Summer Annual Scholars&#8217; Retreat. The Scholars&#8217; Retreat provides an important networking opportunity for top students from all over the United States and Canada to meet with each other and with Google engineers in a personable, fun environment.<\/h2>\n<p><strong>All application materials must be received by SVA no later than 11:59pm PST on December 2, 2013<\/strong>. Scholarship recipients will be announced in February of 2014, and the scholarship funds are to be used for the 2014\/2015 academic semester.<\/p>\n<p>Interested applicants are encouraged to read the below information carefully. If you have any questions regarding the application or the scholarship, please contact us <a href=\"\/contact-us.html\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Eligibility<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Eligible student veterans must meet the below outlined minimum criteria:<\/p>\n<p><b>All successful candidates must:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be currently enrolled as an \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 undergraduate or graduate student at a university for the 2013\u00ad-2014 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 academic year<\/li>\n<li>Intend to be enrolled in or \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 accepted as a full-\u00adtime student at a university in the United States for \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 the 2014-\u00ad2015 academic year<\/li>\n<li>Maintain a strong academic \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 performance<\/li>\n<li>Be pursuing a Computer Science \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 or Computer Engineering degree, or a degree in a closely related technical \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 field*<\/li>\n<li>Be a current student veteran, \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 as proven by a DD-214 and transcript<\/li>\n<li>Have received an honorable \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 discharge, or currently be in good standing with his\/her branch of service<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>*Related Technical Fields may include:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Software Engineering<\/li>\n<li>Electrical Engineering (with a \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 heavy computer science course load)<\/li>\n<li>Computer Engineering<\/li>\n<li>Information Systems<\/li>\n<li>Information Technology<\/li>\n<li>Applied Networking<\/li>\n<li>Systems administration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>*<b>Related Technical Fields do not include:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Civil, Mechanical or Industrial \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Engineering<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Required Additional Documents (uploaded on next page)<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Current copy of resume\/CV;<\/li>\n<li>Unofficial copy of current \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 university transcripts;<\/li>\n<li>Two letters of reference from a \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 professor, adviser or supervisor. These must be emailed by the author to <a href=\"mailto:scholarships@studentveterans.org\">scholarships@studentveterans.org<\/a> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 and the subject should read \u201cGoogle App LoR \u2013 LASTNAME\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Responses to 3 essay questions \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (compiled into one document);<\/li>\n<li>DD 214<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Essay Questions<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Please answer the following questions thoroughly, yet succinctly (300-500 words max).<\/p>\n<p>1) What sparked your interest in computer science? \u00a0How did this lead you to major in computer science and what do you hope to accomplish with your degree? \u00a0In your answer, please describe how your experiences have influenced the goals you have for yourself.<\/p>\n<p>2) Please give us 1-2 examples of how you have exhibited leadership. Explain how you were influential and what you were trying to achieve. These need not be demonstrated through formal or traditional leadership roles.
