Certification is now available for Community Health Workers (CHWs). CHWs have now been recognized as a critical part of the health care system. They’re lay members of communities who work in association with the local health care system in both urban and rural environments and usually share ethnicity, language, socioeconomic status and life experiences with the community members they serve.<\/p>\n

While CHWs focus on different health problems, their duties include outreach, culturally sensitive care, health education\/counseling, health advocacy, home visits, health promotion\/lifestyle change, perinatal care support and transportation\/homemaking.<\/p>\n
