St. Petersburg College\u2019s Model United Nations team received the Outstanding Delegation Award at the National Model United Nations (NMUN) Conference held on November 11 \u2013 13 in Washington, DC. Outstanding Delegation is the highest award presented by NMUN.<\/p>\n

College and university students from around the country attend NMUN conferences. At conference, students work in committees to address regional and global issues and adopt resolutions that detail solutions to issues. Schools are assigned a country to represent, and the delegates must remain in character as they discuss issues from the perspective of their assigned country. The SPC Model United Nations team represented the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.<\/p>\n

Students spend many hours researching the history of their assigned country, committee topics, and position of country on committee topics. They must also attend committee practice sessions.<\/p>\n

\n\u2022 Combating Sexual Violence in Conflict Zones
\n\u2022 The Promotion of Fundamental Freedoms through the Elimination of Racism and Racial Discrimination
\n\u2022 Addressing International Drug Control
\n\u2022 Radioactive Waste Management
\n\u2022 Promoting Nuclear Safety and Security
\n\u2022 Exploring Alternatives to Refugee Camps
\n\u2022 HIV and Reproductive Health Services for Displaced Persons
\n\u2022 Role of Child Laborers in Agriculture
\n\u2022 Responsible Investment Strategies for Food Security and Nutrition<\/p>\n

Professor Randy Lightfoot and Dr. Douglas Rivero traveled with the team.<\/p>\n

Our students do excellent work in conference. They are good ambassadors for the MUN Program and St. Petersburg College.<\/p>\n
