{"id":811,"date":"2017-02-21T17:00:30","date_gmt":"2017-02-21T22:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/science-mathematics-educational-information\/?p=811"},"modified":"2024-01-30T15:55:58","modified_gmt":"2024-01-30T20:55:58","slug":"muddy-water-blues-seminole","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/science-mathematics-educational-information\/muddy-water-blues-seminole\/","title":{"rendered":"Clean Water Brings Muddy Water Blues to Seminole Campus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Clean water brought local and state environmental officials and experts from the private sector to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spcollege.edu\/community\/about\/locations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">St. Petersburg College Seminole Campus<\/a> in early February.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5 class=\"p1\">Muddy Water Blues Technology Transfer Workshop<\/h5>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Attendees came to learn about the latest technology at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection&#8217;s Florida Muddy Water Blues Technology Transfer Workshop.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The conference&#8217;s goal is to share information on performance-based technology and help keep Florida&#8217;s water clean. He credited that success to the work of Theresa Mannix, Executive Director of the Suncoast Utility Contractors Association, and <a href=\"https:\/\/web.spcollege.edu\/instructors\/id\/Scanlon.Maura\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Professor Maura Scanlon from St. Petersburg College<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Scanlon was on hand to welcome students and provide information about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spcollege.edu\/degrees-training\/science-and-mathematics\/science\/environmental-science-technology-as-degree\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SPC&#8217;s Environmental Science program<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Students at the day-long event had the opportunity to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"> network with those already working in the field<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">learn about the latest technology in erosion<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">sediment control best management practices<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The event provided students a look at the challenges experienced by experts in the field and what steps they take to meet those challenges.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5 class=\"p1\">Environmental Science program at SPC<\/h5>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spcollege.edu\/degrees-training\/science-and-mathematics\/science\/environmental-science-technology-as-degree\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Environmental Science program <\/a>at SPC provides opportunities to do good and get hired in an in-demand industry. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">As the world grows more complex, so does the\u00a0need to take care of it. A degree in this fast-growing field prepares students for a variety of roles in state or local government, or the private sector. Students learn how people impact the environment and society tries to keep it in check through regulation and compliance.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Attendees came to
