{"id":193,"date":"2015-06-01T18:39:30","date_gmt":"2015-06-01T22:39:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/science\/?p=193"},"modified":"2024-01-30T15:55:32","modified_gmt":"2024-01-30T20:55:32","slug":"science-students-participate-in-clearwater-centennial-parade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/science-mathematics-educational-information\/science-students-participate-in-clearwater-centennial-parade\/","title":{"rendered":"Science students participate in Clearwater Centennial Parade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Members of the Science Adventures Club on the Clearwater Campus rode atop the float they built to celebrate marine science and the Clearwater Campus&#8217; 50th anniversary during the Clearwater Centennial Parade May 30.<\/p>\n<p>With funding help from Student Services, the float showcased the research<br \/>\nthat science students have been doing for the last few years out in the Gulf, including juvenile fish studies, mangrove grouper habitat studies, Gulf sediment research and the scuba program.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The parade turned out to be a much bigger deal than I had expected,&#8221; said scuba and oceanography instructor Heyward Mathews, who helped construct the float. &#8220;There were so many floats and groups marching that we spent two hours in line<br \/>\nand then at 6:30, when we started down Drew Street, it took us two hours to go<br \/>\nthe 2 \u00bd miles to Coachman Park. The SPC float was very well received by the<br \/>\ncrowd.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;One lady along the route called out that she went to SPC and now had<br \/>\nher Ph.D. Another gentleman commented when he saw the old Ford pickup<br \/>\nthat Dr. Vittetoe and his wife were riding in ahead of us, that he was at SPC when<br \/>\nthat truck was still new.
