Stott made history in the first live Twitter event from the International Space Station in 2009. Join her <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Astro_Nicole\">162K followers on Twitter<\/a> or check out the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=OJS-ykm4R7E\">commencement address<\/a> she gave to SPC graduates in May 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Stott joined NASA in 1988, and was selected for astronaut training in 2000. She served as a Flight Engineer on International Space Station Expeditions 20 and 21 crews, as well as the Space Shuttle <em>Discovery<\/em> for STS-128 and the\u00a0<em>Atlantis<\/em> during STS-129.<\/p>\n<p>She was the first astronaut to paint in space. Since her retirement from NASA, she has been pursuing her passion for art, working with oils, acrylics, and mixed media. She is a perfect example of what women can achieve in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math.<\/p>\n<h3>STEM at St. Petersburg College<\/h3>\n<p>From the new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spcollege.edu\/degrees-training\/science-and-mathematics\/science\/biotechnology-laboratory-technology-as-degree\">Biotechnology Laboratory Engineering<\/a> program to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spcollege.edu\/degrees-training\/technology\/computer-programming-and-analysis\">computer programming<\/a>, STEM\u00a0skills are in demand by employers.<\/p>\n<p>Interested in a STEM career?
