A long-time tradition at the Allstate campus has made a triumphant return! For a number of years, the St. Petersburg College<\/a> Allstate Center campus has celebrated the Friday before the Super Bowl with the Gene Barr Annual Chili Cook Off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the Allstate Center, faculty, staff, and students filled the large Florida room to enjoy this event. In the spirit of the Super Bowl football, highlights were placed on the projector screen, creating the perfect chili-eating atmosphere. There were a total of 12 chilis that were brought up for competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The selected VIP judges had a tough job at the cook-off, as all of the chilis were delicious. Our judges included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

* Dr. Eric Carver, Current Provost of the Health Education Center & Allstate Center<\/p>\n\n\n\n

* Dr. JC Brock , former SPC Allstate Center Campus Provost<\/p>\n\n\n\n

* Christine Pribyl, former Administrative Assistant to the Dean for Public Safety Administration<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After much tasting and deliberation, the judges were able to come to a delicious conclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First place went to Chris Swift from the Center for Public Safety Innovation with his amazing \u201cBambi-Not-So-Safe” venison chili.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second Place Winner Lauren Bley<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Second place was Lauren Bley with her delicious corn and cheese chili\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And last, but definitely not least, was some of our Police Academy recruits who put together a simple but delicious traditional chili.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All three placers won some amazing SPC swag, and of course, some good ole’ SPC Allstate Chili Cook off bragging rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall, this event was a major success, providing an opportunity for our faculty, staff and students to come together in this fun atmosphere \u2013 and the Allstate Center Campus was happy to have a triumphant and delicious return of an old tradition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
