{"id":2518,"date":"2018-11-07T13:41:54","date_gmt":"2018-11-07T18:41:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/public-safety-policy-legal-studies-educational-information\/?p=2518"},"modified":"2024-01-30T15:52:59","modified_gmt":"2024-01-30T20:52:59","slug":"dark-web-investigations-explore-beneath-the-surface","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/public-safety-policy-legal-studies-educational-information\/dark-web-investigations-explore-beneath-the-surface\/","title":{"rendered":"Dark Web Investigations: Explore Beneath The Surface"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you are a web enthusiast with an investigative side and are considering a career in Cybersecurity, you don\u2019t want to miss <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spcollege.edu\/\">St. Petersburg College<\/a>\u2019s featured presentation, \u201cDark Web Investigations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with our guest speaker, Instructor Karhrman Ziegenbein, who is co-founder of the Academy of Technology and Investigations. He will give insight into what the dark web entails and how investigations are conducted.<\/p>\n<p>According to Professor Kevin Thomas of St. Petersburg College, The dark web is not indexed by search engines like Google, making sites there much harder to find for the average web user.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccessing the dark web requires the use of special computers operated by thousands of volunteers around the globe, rendering the user\u2019s IP address unidentifiable and untraceable,\u201d Thomas said.<\/p>\n<p>Although not everything on the dark web is illegal, many of the sites offer prohibited services or products, like stolen credit card numbers, drugs, illegal guns, counterfeit money, stolen subscription credentials, hacked Netflix accounts, and software that helps hackers break into other people\u2019s computers. Using Bitcoin currency, hackers can also buy usernames, passwords and even hire criminals to attack almost any computer on the internet.<\/p>\n<p>The event is one night only and will be held on Wednesday November 14, 2018 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the EpiTech Building, room 2-304 (on the second floor), located at 13805 58th St N Clearwater, FL 33760.
