{"id":4485,"date":"2019-10-25T20:01:19","date_gmt":"2019-10-25T20:01:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/president\/?p=4485"},"modified":"2023-12-12T20:21:59","modified_gmt":"2023-12-12T20:21:59","slug":"2019-spc-discovery-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/president\/2019\/10\/25\/2019-spc-discovery-day\/","title":{"rendered":"2019 SPC Discovery Day"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spcollege.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">St. Petersburg College\u2019s<\/a> annual professional development day, Discovery Day, more than 3,000 faculty, staff and administrators gathered at the SPC Clearwater Campus on Tuesday, Oct. 22. From the classrooms to the auditorium and campus quad, knowledge and inspiration dominated the conversation throughout Discovery Day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/president\/about-the-president\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SPC President Dr. Tonjua Williams<\/a> offered her President\u2019s Message sessions, where she looked ahead seven years to the college\u2019s 100th birthday in 2027, challenging the audience to think about what they want SPC to be in seven years.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe lives we\u2019re changing will be different,\u201d she said. \u201cWe\nneed to work on the possibilities: What they have, and what can happen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Williams discussed how SPC is going about reaching higher,\nincluding:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Increasing enrollment through strategic\nmarketing to target specific groups and programs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Making sure our programs are student-focused and\nare meeting workforce demands<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Closing achievement gaps, specifically among African-American males<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She also vowed to enrich employee engagement and experience\nby acting on employee feedback, building trust, listening to employee voices\nand taking action. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe want to be the premier, the best, and the most effective college with the largest impact. We only have seven years, so we have a lot to do.
