In honor of Women\u2019s History Month, Diverse highlighted women who have made a difference in society by tackling some of higher education\u2019s toughest challenges, exhibiting extraordinary leadership skills and making a difference in their respective communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt is an honor to be recognized,\u201d said SPC President Tonjua Williams. \u201cHowever, I stand on the shoulders of great leaders who have invested in me over the years and inspired me to grow.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr. Williams is the seventh president of St. Petersburg College and has held various positions throughout her 30-plus years of experience in higher education. She has gained national recognition as an expert in student development and executing plans that transform departments and institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Williams holds a Ph.D. in higher education administration from Barry University, with a specialization in educational leadership. She has participated in several leadership programs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>State of Florida Chancellor\u2019s Leadership Program<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Leadership St. Petersburg<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>University of Florida\u2019s Executive Leadership Program<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>American Association of Community College\u2019s Thomas Lakin Leadership Program<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recently, the <a href=\"https:\/\/highered.aspeninstitute.org\/risingpresidents\/\">Aspen Presidential Fellowship<\/a> selected Dr. Williams as one of 40 leaders in the inaugural class. This fellowship is a year-long program.
