With warm hugs and smiling faces, the Owens family made a special visit to meet SPC President Dr. Tonjua Williams<\/a> during their Spring Break vacation. The family shared with Dr. Williams how they\u2019ve visited many historical places but to actually meet someone who\u2019s making history is life-changing.<\/p>\n

Dr. Williams became the first African-American and first female president of St. Petersburg College in July 2017.<\/p>\n

Inspired by Dr. Williams\u2019 accomplishments and to honor her, Tanner and her younger sister Talen entered the 2018 Governor Rick Scott and First Lady Ann Scott Black History Month Contest<\/a>. Tanner, a fifth grader, summited an essay titled \u201cDreams Do Come True: An Innovative Woman.\u201d Talen, a third grader, submitted a portrait of Williams.<\/p>\n

During the Owens family visit, Dr. Williams encouraged the young ladies to stay focused on their education and to remember, \u201cThere\u2019s absolutely, positively nothing you cannot do, period.\u201d<\/p>\n
