We are looking for students to create art based on the themes and emotions in The Hate U Give, the SPC Reads title for 2018-19<\/a>. Throughout the book, Thomas takes great care to depict Starr\u2019s thoughts and feelings as she navigates between her two communities. She experiences moments of grief, anger, confusion, and clarity while she processes the trauma of witnessing Khalil\u2019s murder. In trying to grieve, she  seeks justice for Khalil in its wake.<\/p>\n

Depicting Emotions Art Project for SPC Reads ‘The Hate U Give<\/em>‘<\/h5>\n

Using a digital or print medium of your choosing, create a representation of a character\u2019s thinking and\/or feeling from a particular moment in the book. You might, for example, create a visual depiction of a scene from the book through a comic, drawing, or painting. You might create a collage or a scrapbook page representing the event that the character is reacting to.<\/p>\n

To accompany your creative presentation, include a written statement describing:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1.  The scene, emotion, or theme from the book that inspired your composition<\/em><\/li>\n
  2. The goal or message of your composition<\/em><\/li>\n
  3. Why you chose your particular medium.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    **Project credit: Charleston College<\/p>\n

    Rules of Entry<\/h5>\n

    1. All artwork must be submitted to either the Tarpon Campus Library<\/a> (front circulation desk) or Clearwater Campus Library<\/a> (upstairs information desk) by Friday, April 19 at 12:00 noon.<\/p>\n

    2. All submitted artwork must include a submission form (available online or at library front desk).<\/p>\n

    3. Submitted art projects will be displayed April 29 through May 5 in either of the Tarpon<\/a> or Clearwater<\/a> Campus Libraries.<\/p>\n

    4. All artwork will be returned and can be picked up at either the Tarpon Springs<\/a> or Clearwater<\/a> Campus Libraries.<\/p>\n

    5. Copies of The Hate U Give will be available for students to borrow for art inspiration from the Tarpon Springs Campus Library<\/a>. Students who turn in a completed artwork may keep the copy of the book.<\/p>\n

    6. Artwork will be displayed at the discretion of SPC Libraries<\/a> in accordance with SPC Student Code of Conduct<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
