{"id":1011,"date":"2019-04-18T14:46:29","date_gmt":"2019-04-18T18:46:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/learning-resources\/?p=1011"},"modified":"2024-01-30T15:47:49","modified_gmt":"2024-01-30T20:47:49","slug":"voting-for-spc-reads-2019-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/learning-resources\/voting-for-spc-reads-2019-20\/","title":{"rendered":"Voting is now open for SPC Reads 2019-20!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Voting is now open for SPC Reads\n2019-20!&nbsp; Visit our <a href=\"https:\/\/nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fspcollege.libguides.com%2FSPCReads&amp;data=02%7C01%7CTerrana.Joe%40spcollege.edu%7Cea70f700c938439274d008d6c1d659e7%7C575038c8ac704295810e0df79c005f41%7C0%7C0%7C636909523702985631&amp;sdata=Rr90czVWP255sFYhBh64LBKkDoZWyqwOjFXnxOx1Ozw%3D&amp;reserved=0\">SPC\nReads Guide&nbsp;<\/a> to find out about the five finalists, including book\nreviews and summaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s up to you to decide which\ntitle will be our SPC Reads selection for Fall 2019\/Spring 2020.&nbsp;This\nyear\u2019s finalists are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em><strong>American Like Me<\/strong><\/em> by\nAmerica Ferrara, Actress and Activist<\/li><li><em><strong>Born a Crime<\/strong><\/em> by\nTrevor Noah, Comedian and Daily Show Host<\/li><li><strong><em>Educated<\/em><\/strong>\nby Tara\nWestover a <em>New York Times<\/em> bestseller<\/li><li><strong><em>Behold the\nDreamers<\/em><\/strong> by\nImbolo Mbue, a <em>New York Times<\/em> Notable\nFinalist<\/li><li><strong><em>Call Me American<\/em><\/strong>\nby Abdi\nNor Iftin a <em>Publisher\u2019s Weekly<\/em> and <em>Booklist<\/em> starred review<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Voting is open <strong>Monday, April 15<sup>th<\/sup> <\/strong>until<strong> April 24<sup>th<\/sup> at 11:59pm (midnight).<\/strong> Cast your vote at <a href=\"https:\/\/web.spcollege.edu\/survey\/27181\">https:\/\/web.spcollege.edu\/survey\/27181<\/a> where you\u2019ll also find summaries of each book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is SPC Reads? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each year, SPC students, faculty, and staff vote for a common reading selection that is celebrated college-wide. The book is intended to reach across many of the College\u2019s curricula and is incorporated into assignments in many courses, including as required reading selections, critical analysis projects, art projects, and more. Furthermore, this common reading program across the College community promotes discussion and learning beyond the classroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The five finalists were chosen from\na selection of 25 book titles nominated by SPC faculty. The SPC Reads\nNomination Committee members voted for their top five choices based on reviews,\nprogramming options, course integration ideas, and each books\u2019 correlation to\nthis year\u2019s theme of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
