{"id":9875,"date":"2015-06-25T17:18:57","date_gmt":"2015-06-25T17:18:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/international\/?p=9875"},"modified":"2024-01-30T10:10:34","modified_gmt":"2024-01-30T15:10:34","slug":"day-4-jewish-culture-in-rome-by-bronwen-tedrick","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/international\/day-4-jewish-culture-in-rome-by-bronwen-tedrick\/","title":{"rendered":"Day 4: Jewish Culture in Rome"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"margin-bottom: .25in\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia','serif';color: #444444\">On Thursday we went to visit the Jewish Ghetto and two Jewish Synagogues.\u00a0 Before we went to see the synagogues we went to see the home of Octavia, the sister of a Roman Emperor from over 1700 years ago.\u00a0 Sadly, it was covered in scaffolding and we could not see a lot.\u00a0 Plus since it was so old and quiet, I couldn&#8217;t get any pictures of the inside.\u00a0 Down the street from Octavia&#8217;s home was a theater that looked like a much smaller version of the Coliseum.\u00a0 I thought it was pretty fascinating that people were able to live on top of the thousand year old building.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: .25in\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia','serif';color: #444444\">The Jewish Ghetto did not leave much of an impression on me.\u00a0 It looked like all the other parts of Italy, I wouldn&#8217;t have been able to tell the difference between the cities if we hadn&#8217;t passed through a gate to prevent driving.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: .25in\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia','serif';color: #444444\">The first synagogue we went to was the Spanish Synagogue that was underground and very small.\u00a0 It had some parts of the original five synagogues of Italy in it.\u00a0 The second synagogue we went to was the Great Synagogue.\u00a0 This one truly deserved the name Great.\u00a0 It was magnificent and huge.\u00a0 Everything was colorful and filled with rich minerals and beauty.\u00a0 I could clearly see why it wasn&#8217;t destroyed during the Holocaust even though Italy was an Axis.\u00a0 It was positively stunning.\u00a0 I was extremely happy when our tour guide told us we were allowed to take pictures because my instructors told us that in previous years they weren&#8217;t allowed to.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: .25in\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2015\/07\/Capture2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-9876\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2015\/07\/Capture2-226x300.jpg\" alt=\"Capture2\" width=\"226\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2015\/07\/Capture2-226x300.jpg 226w, https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2015\/07\/Capture2.jpg 673w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 226px) 100vw, 226px\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2015\/07\/Capture1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-9877\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2015\/07\/Capture1-226x300.jpg\" alt=\"Capture1\" width=\"226\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2015\/07\/Capture1-226x300.jpg 226w, https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2015\/07\/Capture1.jpg 672w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 226px) 100vw, 226px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Thursday we went to visit the Jewish Ghetto and two Jewish Synagogues.\u00a0 Before we went to see the synagogues we went to see the home of Octavia, the sister of a Roman Emperor from over 1700 years ago.\u00a0 Sadly, it was covered in scaffolding and we could not see a lot.\u00a0 Plus since it &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/international\/day-4-jewish-culture-in-rome-by-bronwen-tedrick\/\" class=\"more-link\">Continue reading <span class=\"screen-reader-text\">Day 4: Jewish Culture in Rome<\/span> <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":408,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[7,13],"tags":[17],"coauthors":[721],"class_list":["post-9875","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-study-abroad","category-italy-2021","tag-italy-high-school"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
