I never expected a simple choice as going abroad to change so many aspects of my life in such a short time period. As I entered this experience, I expected to only gain academic skills, but it has proven to be so much more. The Spanish people are the most patient and welcoming people I have ever met; the culture is one of the most beautiful. The city has become my home and my host family has become my own.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-9748 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2015\/07\/mariah-2-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"mariah 2\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>The Spanish language is so beautiful and the country mirrors this with its breathtaking landscapes, its diverse architecture and history, and its individual town&#8217;s personalities. As I go through this academic and personal journey, this program continues to teach me the rewards of patience, humility, and responsibility along with the importance of friendship, family, honesty, and acceptance. As I continue to travel and grow as a person and as a student, my &#8220;yellowbrick road&#8221; will always begin here, in the cobblestone streets of Salamanca, learning this beautiful language with beautiful people around me.<\/p>\n<p>My favorite quote is &#8220;your inner knowing is your only true compass&#8221; and this experience has proven that this is true, but only with the advice and support of others to guide you. As our journey here reaches its midway point, I am grateful for the experiences I have had and excited for what the rest of the path may hold.
