{"id":7829,"date":"2015-05-18T16:19:41","date_gmt":"2015-05-18T16:19:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/study-abroad\/?p=7829"},"modified":"2024-01-30T09:56:30","modified_gmt":"2024-01-30T14:56:30","slug":"the-wonders-of-giants-causeway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/international\/the-wonders-of-giants-causeway\/","title":{"rendered":"The Wonders of Giant&#8217;s Causeway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/study-abroad\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/GOPR1258_edited.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-7841 alignright\" alt=\"DCIM100GOPROGOPR1258.\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/study-abroad\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/GOPR1258_edited-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a>After 5 incredible days in the beautiful country of Ireland, our group hopped on a bus and ventured all the way to Giant&#8217;s Causeway, a natural formation of over 40,000 conjoined basalt columns which were the result of an ancient volcanic eruption. Before we could see the beauty of the causeway, the 12 of us made our way down the cliffs leading to the ocean (with only a few minor stumbles, nothing too painful!) and stopped along the way to take pictures and accidentally got our feet wet in the process. It&#8217;s amazing how quickly a bunch of strangers can become such great friends when experiencing the culture of another country.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, after much awaited anticipation, we arrived at the causeway and soaked in the beauty of what stood before us. Pictures\u00a0will never do it justice;\u00a0the clear blue\u00a0and white\u00a0water crashing against the dark\u00a0jagged cliffs\u00a0with Scotland in the distance was unlike anything I&#8217;ve ever experienced. For me, standing at the spot that inspired the cover art of Led Zeppelin&#8217;s album Houses of the Holy was like seeing what they saw in the 1970&#8217;s. Giant&#8217;s Causeway has so far been the highlight of my trip to Ireland, as well as one of the most incredible moments of my lifetime.
