Courteous is not a word that is commonly used in the United States to describe a person. While there are many adjectives that Americans may employ to describe the kind deeds, gestures, and moments that they may come across with another, I do not believe they hold the pureness of what the definite denotation of courteous is suppose to describe. From the first moment I walked into Mt. Airy All Age School, courteousness was the only thing I received, from the way the students stand up and harmoniously greet you when you walk in the class, to the pure joy on their faces, that is sprung from nothing but the chance to get to connect with a complete stranger. Seeing the way that Jamaican children view the world is such a beautifully eye-opening experience that cannot be fabricated, and it is with the realization of that pureness that you begin to question the incredibly insignificant things that other cultures insist on deeming important on a daily basis. When moments like simply being able to hear a book read aloud, having the chance to work on sight words in a small group, and getting a fist pound with three thumb snaps are the highlights of a students day, it makes it effortless to see the true beauty that each individual possesses. And it is with this mindset that I get to live out the rest of my week. It really makes you wonder who is teaching who the most.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
